The World Toilet Summit & Expo 2008, organised by the World Toilet Organisation was held from November 4 – 6 in Macau. The summit conducted in partnership with Asian Development Bank (ADB) and MP Asia (MPA) followed the theme ‘Driving Sustainable Sanitation through Market-Based Initiatives’. Based on the theme, participants had to come up with feasible ideas in providing sanitation solutions to explore the potential of the bottom of the pyramid. Sanitation experts from WSSCC, Ashoka, GTZ, Unilever, World Bank, World Health Organization, UBS AG, SEI and other mayors attended the seminars to discuss sanitation issues. The expo also had a Sustainable Sanitation Pavilion which gave organisations a platform to present key initiatives and ongoing sanitation programmes.
