Jalmudi village in Andhra Pradesh could be the first village in the world to get a supply of clean drinking water by harnessing humidity in the air. The project, a joint venture between WaterMarker India and the village panchayat, costs 50 lakhs and is expected to benefit over 600 people. The technology has been developed by the US-based Air Water Corporation and the machine is manufactured in Israel. The process involves condensing water vapour and collecting it before it touches the earth. The system comprises a water plant, filtration panel, holding tank and dispenser and ensures a localised source of water that reduces pipes.
