According to the Monitor Deloitte, the lack of toilets in India offers a huge business opportunity worth र70,000cr.
The toilet-sector companies and others involved in the cleaning industry in states like Bihar where 84% of households want a toilet at home can encash the opportunity under Government of India policy, Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. Existing cost about र20,000 for a toilet is beyond the reach of many rural households. The companies able to make good low-cost toilets can reap massive business benefits out of India’s present need to declare the country free from open defecation under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan through which the Centre provides subsidy for rural toilet construction.
The toilet sector also can provide jobs as it needs a vast numbers of trained masons. The size of financing opportunity in toilet sector is र45,000 crore. This opens up a profit-front for the private sector companies. Under this programme, the Centre has so far spent र20,000 crore and also going to spend more.
