The Thiruvalla Municipal Corporation has joined hands with Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies (Macfast), Thiruvalla to implement waste management scheme within the municipal limits for next three years. The project ‘Green and Clean City’ is based on the principle of reduce, reuse, recycle, refuse, repair and rethink. The project would encourage decentralised mechanism for waste management and also generate wealth out of waste.

The corporation wants to implement the project to make a model, waste-free, green, clean and healthy city through a viable, cost-effective and financially sustainable waste management system with people’s participation. Besides, the Principal of Macfast also conducts ‘green hour’ every week in all educational institutions in the municipal limits to make the students and staff realise the importance of eco-friendly waste management. The project also aims to implement concepts like bio-parks, green school, eco parks and knowledge centre in a phased manner.
