Growing complaints of dust problems has led Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to acquire new sweeping machines on BOO basis. The civic body is planning to add five sweeping machines to reinforce its sanitation programme.
According to the GHMC officials, tenders have been floated inviting contractors to operate their vehicles and get paid for the services on an hourly basis. Presently, the civic body is paying Rs1,100 per hour to operators for big sweeping machines and Rs690 for smaller machines that include fuel and maintenance costs. In the meantime, the existing fleet — one big and six small sweeping machines — have been sent for refurbishment that will take around two months.
