Garbage chutes to keep house gullies clean

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will be installing garbage chutes in 12 buildings which are located in inaccessible gullies. The civic body has chosen D-ward which includes Gaodevi, Bhuleshwar and Girgaum for the project.

A joint inspection by local corporator Surendra Bagalkar and ward officials has led to the decision of installing garbage chutes made of rubber or a synthetic fabric on every floor along the railings in these buildings. These chutes will be connected to a bin on the ground floor. People can throw garbage into the chute’s outlet on their floor and municipal conservancy staff can clear the garbage collected in the bin on the ground floor.

Mohan Adtani, Additional Municipal Commissioner told Clean India Journal, “A building from the same ward has installed a chute on its own. We have told ward office staff to visit it and see how that design can be replicated in other buildings.”
