Cost Effective & Quality Cleaning

by Clean India Journal - Editor

[box type=”shadow” ]Housekeeping has its own challenges when it comes four-star hotels, both in terms of space to be cleaned and the feasibility to clean. Peeyush Kushwaha, Executive Housekeeper, Mapple Emerald, New Delhi, shares his experience[/box]

Peeyush-KushwahaOne of the most consumed products in cleaning is chemicals. Hence, it is imperative that we look for a vendor who supplies regularly and provides a good after sales service. “There are many local, national and multi-national companies which approached us and conducted demos. I joined Mapple in 2014, and introduced products of Buzil Rossari. I foundthat the chemicals provided by the company were more cost effective than others.”

Besides the quality of chemicals, after sales services has to be good. “Once vendors are engaged, they initially provide all kinds of services but the frequency drops after six months, to the extent that they do not turn up even in case of emergency. Also, it is a common practice among vendors to increase costs year after year and even multiple times in a year. We do not face these problems now. The chemicals are good in terms of dilution rate and effectiveness in the cleaning process. We are at present using Buzil Rossari’s Blitz Citro, window master glass cleaner, Rose TC, Descaling chemicals. Moreover, there is uniformity when it comes to price increase.”

Mapple has seven properties across India. The New Delhi 4-star property has 53 rooms and a huge banquet. In all there 21 staff members, including room attendants, desk attendants and supervisors maintaining the facility.

“While we do use floor cleaning machines, all other cleaning activities are manual. This is one of our key properties with a large landscape and a huge turnover. Generally, new implementations are done here before being adopted at other properties.

Most of the area in the hotel being carpeted and marble flooring, housekeeping engages in regular vacuuming and spotting. About 5,000sqft is covered with carpet. “However, when the occupancy is high or there are events, the carpets are cleaned every second day. During the lean time, we take it up for shampooing and deep cleaning. The rest of the floor area is cleaned with the help of an outsourced vendor.”
